Glucose, Lipid and Mixed-Meal Tolerance Tests

Oral glucose, oral lipid and mixed-meal tolerance tests are widely used in metabolic research and diabetes drug development. They provide an integrated assessment of the metabolic responses relevant when assessing an intervention.

Tolerance Testing Techniques:

  • Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is used to interrogate the effects of a therapeutic intervention in a clinical research setting and by clinicians to diagnose forms of glucose intolerance and type 2 diabetes.
  • Mixed-meal tolerance test (MMTT) is used to interrogate the effects of a therapeutic intervention in a clinical research setting and by clinicians to diagnose forms of glucose intolerance and type 2 diabetes.
  • Oral lipid tolerance test (OLTT) is used to measure postprandial triglyceride levels and whole-body lipid homeostasis after consumption of a standardized meal.
